How our rankings work
Our rankings are editorial assessments based on the criteria described on this page. They are not objective truth, and they do not guarantee anything about your visit.
The core decision
We score information, not experiences
Most sites in this category publish a ranked list of clubs with star ratings for "atmosphere," "dancers," "value" and "service." Almost none of them have a defensible basis for those numbers. The honest options were to fabricate a rating system or to score something real. We chose the second.
Our score measures how well a venue is documented and how practical it is to reach — the two things that reliably determine whether a night out goes smoothly. A venue that publishes accurate hours, answers its phone and sits within walking distance of the Boardwalk hotels is genuinely more useful to a visitor than one that publishes nothing, regardless of what either is like inside.
A high score is not an endorsement of a venue's entertainment, and a low score is not a criticism of it. It is a statement about how much you can know in advance.
Weights
The scoring framework
| Criterion | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Information availability | 30% | Does the venue publish an address, phone number, hours, age policy and bar format on a source we can attribute to the venue itself? |
| Source reliability | 25% | First-party publication and public records score highest. Local news reporting scores well. User-submitted adult directories score near zero and are treated as leads only. |
| Internal consistency | 15% | Do the venue's own pages agree with each other, and do third-party listings match? Contradictory addresses or hours reduce the score. |
| Logistical accessibility | 15% | Can a visitor without a car reach the venue from the Boardwalk hotel corridor? Drive-only venues score lower for the typical Atlantic City visitor. |
| Operating certainty | 10% | How confident are we that the venue is trading right now, based on maintained websites and current sources? |
| Recency of verification | 5% | How recently we last confirmed the record. Stale listings decay. |
Scores run 0–100. Weights are stored as configuration, not hard-coded into individual listings, so a change to the framework re-scores every venue consistently.
Refusals
What we will not do
We do not invent prices
If a venue does not publish a cover charge, we say so. A plausible-sounding number is still a made-up number, and people budget real money against them.
We do not write first-person visits
No "we spent a Saturday night at..." No staff experiences. No composite narratives dressed up as reporting.
We do not publish customer testimonials
We have no way to verify an anonymous review of an adult venue, so we do not host them and we do not summarise them as if they were data.
We do not sell editorial rank
Positions #1–#5 and every score on this site are earned on the criteria above. We do sell clearly-labelled featured placement, which sits in its own slots and is always marked as paid — it never moves an editorial rank.
We do not score venues we can't confirm
Where a listing exists only on user-submitted directories, we publish it as a lead with the label "Not enough verified information for an editorial ranking."
We do not quietly delete closures
Closed venues keep their pages, clearly marked, because outdated recommendations are the most common way visitors waste an evening.

What our confidence tags mean
- Verified
- Published by the venue itself, a public record, or established local reporting, and checked by us on the date shown.
- Reported
- Stated by a credible source but with a caveat — a conflicting second source, or a claim the source has an interest in making.
- Unverified
- Appears only in third-party or user-submitted listings. Treat as a lead to confirm by phone, not as a fact.
- Not currently verified.
- We looked and found nothing publishable. This is a real finding, not an empty field.
Commercial disclosure
Editorial ranking vs. paid placement
Both exist on this site. They are kept structurally separate, and you will always be told which one you are looking at.
Editorial ranking
Determined only by the weighted criteria above. Money cannot buy, raise or protect a rank, and no venue is shown the ranking before it publishes. Featured partners are scored by exactly the same framework as everyone else.
Featured placement
Venues can pay for a labelled featured slot. Every such slot carries a visible "paid placement" tag, sits outside the ranked list, and never reorders editorial results. Advertising is sold by the site, not by the writers who score venues. Advertising details.
