Getting around Atlantic City at night

The Atlantic City Jitney Association runs small buses across the city and advertises service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For moving between the Boardwalk corridor and the Marina District casinos at hours when nothing else is convenient, this is the option locals use.

The association is based in Egg Harbor Township and also operates an on-demand ride service alongside the fixed jitney routes.

Widely available and the default for most visitors, with one predictable failure: closing time. When the Boardwalk-area venues empty at 4:00 AM on a Saturday, demand spikes across a small area at once. Walking two or three blocks away from the cluster before requesting a ride is the standard workaround.

The South Carolina Avenue venues are inside the Boardwalk hotel corridor, so if you are staying on the Boardwalk you can walk. This is the main practical reason those venues rank well on our accessibility criterion.

Marina District properties — Borgata, Harrah's, Golden Nugget — are not walkable to the Boardwalk cluster in any realistic sense, especially late at night.

NJ Transit runs rail and bus service into Atlantic City and markets it precisely on skipping Expressway traffic and parking fees. It is a good way to arrive and leave, but it is not a way to get home at 4:00 AM — check the last departure before assuming it is your ride back.

The one habit that separates a smooth night from a bad one: decide how you are getting back before you go out. Groups that leave it open end up split across three rideshares at surge pricing, or worse, with someone driving who shouldn't.
